Commercial Backs Surge Again
Commercial mortgage-backed securities are mounting a comeback after ranking as one of the biggest sources of real estate debt in the previous cycle.
In the wake of the recession, only the best properties are getting loans; and more buyers are turning to the CMBS market to provide the debt for less-than-stellar real estate. Competition is already tough, which is compelling CMBS lenders to relax the stricter, post-crisis criteria they adopted.
